Man arrested as more than 50 Cannabis plants found growing in Swadlincote house

On Monday January 28, officers from our Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team seized more than 50 suspected cannabis plants from a house in Hartshorne.

The team searched the address on Brook Street after concerns that the occupant was bypassing the electricity supply to grow the plants.

As well as the growing plants, bags of already produced cannabis were found along with equipment believed to be used in its cultivation.

The 46-year-old occupant of the address was arrested and has been interviewed in relation to the production of a class B drug and the abstraction of electricity. He has now been released under further investigation.

PC John Anwar, from the team, said: “We will always act positively on such information as we realise the crime and disorder that this type of activity can cause in communities.

“Tampering with the mains electricity supply is a particularly dangerous thing to do and as well as causing danger to the occupants of the house clearly also endangers others in the neighbourhood.”
