Man arrested in connection with sexual assault

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged incident in Derby City Centre in in the early hours of Saturday morning (January 26).

At 5.25am police were called to a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted in St Peter’s Street, Derby.

Since then a team of detectives have been following a number of lines of enquiry which yesterday led to the arrest of 34-year-old man from Derby.

The man has since been released on police bail and an investigation is ongoing.

Superintendent Dave Cox, who leads city centre policing, said: “We want to ensure that the public feel able to enjoy the city centre safely and, as such, will be continuing to have increased patrols over the next couple of days and into the weekend.

“Please feel free to approach officers and chat to them whilst they are out on patrol. They will be happy to speak with you as a large part of their role is to engage with the community, offer reassurance and ultimately to keep you safe.”
