Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

X2 Akita dogs have been seized today following an incident of Livestock worrying in the Hilton area this afternoon. Enquiries ongoing.

Livestock worrying is an offence - If a dog worries livestock on any agricultural land, the owner of the dog, and, if it is in the charge of a person other than its owner, that person also, shall be guilty of an offence.
Worrying livestock means— attacking livestock, or chasing livestock in such a way as may reasonably be expected to cause injury or suffering to the livestock or, in the case of females, abortion, or loss of or diminution in their produce.

Please ensure your dogs are kept leashed when walking near livestock and if you live near livestock ensure the area where your dogs have access to is fully secured to prevent them escaping the confines and getting near to the livestock.
