Free bike marking event in Derby City centre

Alert message sent 01/03/2019 15:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

Our Derby City Safer Neighbourhood Team is offering the opportunity for cyclists to have their bikes security-marked free of charge.

The event is being held this Saturday, March 2, at the Derby branch of Cycle Republic.

PC Shaun Carter, from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, is keen to encourage people to bring their bikes along: “The scheme works by marking the pedal cycle with a unique code, linked to the owner’s details on a secure database.

“If the bike is stolen and subsequently found, we can use this code to ensure that it is returned to its rightful owner. It can also help to secure a successful prosecution against the thieves.”

The team will be at Cycle Republic, London Road between 10am and 4pm. Any one attending to have their pedal cycle marked should bring with them some form of identification.

For further information, contact the Team on 101, or send them a message online by visiting the Contact Us section of our website.
