Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

The Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team has joined forces with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, local council officers and Neighbourhood Watch to hold a Safer Together event next week.

Our officers will be taking over the former Grainger Games unit (7 and 8 Steeplegate) at the Vicar Lane Shopping Centre on Friday, June 28 between 10am and 2pm.

Residents and shoppers will be able to drop in and speak to their local officers, along with representatives from Neighbourhood Watch and Chesterfield Borough Council’s housing, environmental health and community safety officers, and pick up advice around crime prevention and safety.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service will be on hand with advice and information, and at the event, residents will be encouraged to sign up to Derbyshire Alert to receive targeted information about crime, scams and crime prevention initiatives in their area

PCSO Karl Marsh of the Chesterfield Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Chesterfield Borough Council and Neighbourhood Watch to provide our local communities help and advice, and the chance to meet their local officers.”

The Safer Together campaign marks new investment in the force that will see 120 new posts created working to improve police presence in neighbourhoods and bolster investigations.

The investment came after consultation with the public revealed they were willing to pay extra in council tax to fund an increase in police resources in neighbourhoods.

Recruitment to the new roles is under way with posts all due to be in place by the end of July.
Investment will also be put towards improving road safety and providing greater support to vulnerable people, including those in mental health crisis.
