Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

Dear Residents,

Over the week your local Safer Neighbourhood Team have been helping DCC deliver meals and hampers to the elderly, lonely, isolated, restricted to homes to generate a sense of community in these times of uncertainty, the project is called 'Christmas Cheer' One resident was so overwhelmed and grateful that it brought her to tears, great course

What is the Derby Christmas Cheer Project?

For several years, the Derby City Council Neighbourhoods Team have helped to organise and run Christmas parties for elderly residents. With the coronavirus pandemic putting stop to any mass gatherings, the team decided to find another way to spread some cheer by bringing Christmas to them.

Working with partners, the project has delivered 900 meals across every ward to some of Derby’s elderly and most vulnerable residents, many of whom will be lonely and isolated due to the coronavirus restrictions.

The project also aims to continue the tradition of providing events and entertainment, but in a COVID safe way by doing it online. Derby City Council and Derby Homes have coordinated this with a range of partners, businesses, charities, volunteers and community groups. Between them, they have kindly submitted a range of videos, including carol performances, plays, music, stories, poetry and Christmas messages from key individuals in the city. We appreciate that not every resident will have technology to do that, but many will & this can be available to all residents even if they do not receive a meal. www.youtube.com/derbycc click on Playlist and then click on 'Derby Christmas Cheer 2020'.

Merry Christmas to everyone of you and please do look after yourselves
