Five men charged with arson after allegedly causing out of control fire in Derbyshire Dales

Five men have been charged with arson after allegedly causing an out of control fire in the Derbyshire Dales.

The five, all aged in their 20s, are alleged to have travelled from their homes in Mansfield and Derby, to Hathersage on 30 May, 2020, to camp.

While camping on a piece of land off The Dale in the village it is alleged they set a fire which caused considerable damage to large parts of a field and woodland.

All five of the men listed below have been charged with one count of arson:
  • Toby Ryde – 23, of Skegby Lane, Mansfield.
  • Kieran Cooke – 25, of Butt Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse.
  • Liam Smyth – 23, Rushpool Close, Forest Town, Mansfield.
  • Charlie Kerry-Pickering – 25, Stuart Street, Derby.
  • Corey Bennett – 26, Chapel Street, Whaley Thorns.

The five are due to appear at Northern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on 22 January.
