PARTNERSHIP WORKING AT WILLINGTON ROAD, NEAR REPTON

Alert message sent 23/01/2021 20:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

Officers from Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team have been working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council this week at Willington Road, near Repton, following its recent closure due to flooding in the area.

The road was closed following a rise in water levels and concerns for public safety.

Willington Road reopened today at 13:15 hours after council staff and utility suppliers worked throughout Friday evening and Saturday morning to complete essential works to the bridge and roadway.

Cleaning teams from the Council completed necessary remedial activity to drains and structural engineers attended the scene to conduct assessments and checks.

Officers from your local Safer Neighbourhood Team were in attendance at the scene and, with regret, had to advise several local people not to breach the supervised road closure barriers.

Sadly, officers also had to engage with some sightseers who made unnecessary journeys to the scene to photograph the flood water.

Nevertheless, by working collaboratively in partnership, and after many hours of diligent activity, the road was reopened by Derbyshire County Council Highways Department at lunchtime today.

Officers would like to thank the communities of Repton and Willington for their understanding and cooperation whilst works were completed.
